Default some questions bout ice dancing

Hey, so I skated competitively for a couple years but quit when I was 11 to play soccer more. I'm now 18 and a freshman in college and have just gotten back into the sport. I would really like to get into ice dancing because I know that I just don't have the right mentality to continue through doubles or triples. I was wondering how long it usually takes people to excel through the levels of ice dancing. Also, I know that you are suppose to get a coach first and test before looking for a partner, but should I get a guy coach so that I can, in a way, partner up with him for tests etc. Any information about ice dancing would be great, b/c I really don't know much. Thanx so much, Jenna

Why not check out... Ice Dance Online they have a message board and i guess there will be more ice dancers than figure skaters on there so they would possibly be able to help you more.

Just dont forget us here

i'm kinda in the same situation, although it sounds like i wasnt nearly as good as you were! i quit skating at 15 but never really lost interest in it (more like 'was always incredibly hooked to it and and since then have not stopped thinking bout it' haha)
now i'm in 1st year of uni and have decided to take it back up! woooo! :-D
so next week i will take to the ice for the first time in 2 years...kinda scary! some friends and i are going to some quiet afternoon sessions, and then we are all going to sign up for group lessons (although they've never skated before :-S). i guess i will have to retake some of the grades, as i've probably forgotten it all!
have you kept up recreational skating? i think i would like to get into ice dance too, i always loved practising edges, footwork, etc. (very relaxing) and i was *useless* at the jumps anyway! :-P (although i did always love spinning and was pretty good at that )

(excuse the long post, lectures are over for the day and i'm seriously procrastinating to put off having to get started on a lab report lol)

does anyone have any experience of the skate uk star ice DANCE tests? i finished all the figure tests for that when i was younger, and i guess i've kinda slipped back to that standard :-P

roll on next week! it will be so exciting!

at the mo im doing ice dance uk star programme. If you can do basic skating (skate forward, edges, glide on 1 foot, crossovers etc) u should pick up the moves quite quickly. The only thing is remember the steps!! The programme is gd to introduce the dance moves and easies the progression into higher levels.

Default oh dear...

well, went skating in dundee this afternoon...things are worse than i thought they'd be! forwards crossovers really freaked me out for some reason (backwards one were just as they used to be, no worries there...strange really!), edges are a bit shaky and i didnt have the courage to attempt any spins! :-( its just been so long since i've been on the ice! methinks some serious practise will be required to relearn everything and get the confidence back!!! felt good to be back though :-D
its going to be pretty expensive - £9 for the 2 buses and £4 entry to the session!!!!!
